Lower New Inn privacy notice

Lower New Inn privacy notice

Welcome to The Lower New Inn. Looking after our community is at the heart of everything we do, and that includes keeping your personal information safe and sound. This notice explains how we handle your data when you visit our pub or use our website, all while keeping things simple and friendly.

In Short: We collect the details you share with us (like when you book a table), some information automatically when you browse our site or visit the pub, and data from our safety systems like CCTV.

What you give us;
When you sign up, book a spot, buy something from us, or just get in touch, we may ask for your name, email address, phone number, postal address, and sometimes extra details like dietary requirements or booking notes.

Payment details;
If you pay online or in person using a card, our trusted payment partners (such as Stripe, PayPal or Shopify, depending on how you pay) process your payment securely. We do not store your full card details on our own systems. You can read more about how they handle your data in their privacy notices:

Booking data
When you make a reservation, we collect the information needed to manage your booking, such as your name, contact details, party size, date and time of visit, dietary needs and any special requests. We use this so we can honour your booking and look after you properly.

CCTV
We use CCTV in and around the pub to help keep our guests, staff and premises safe. Cameras may record images of you when you are on or near our premises. We usually keep this footage for up to 31 days, unless we need to keep it longer because of an incident, complaint or legal reason. Access is limited to authorised people and, where needed, the police or other authorities.

Wi‑Fi
If you use our free guest Wi‑Fi, we may collect technical connection details from your device (such as a MAC address and connection logs) so we can keep the network secure and running smoothly. We do not use this information for marketing.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, when you visit www.lowernewinn.com we automatically collect some technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, general location (country or region), pages viewed and how you interact with the site. We use this mainly to keep the site secure and to understand how people use it so we can improve it.

We only use your information when we have a clear reason to do so. This includes:

  • Bookings and visits (Contract): To confirm and manage your reservation, contact you about your booking, and make sure we meet any needs you have told us about.

  • Orders and payments (Contract): To process your orders, take payment, handle refunds where needed, and provide what you have bought from us.

  • Running your account (Contract / Legitimate interests): To create and manage any online account you have with us, keep it secure and fix technical issues.

  • Keeping you informed (Contract / Legal obligation): To send you important service messages, such as changes to our terms, policies or services.

  • Feedback and surveys (Legitimate interests): To ask for your feedback so we can improve our food, drink, service and events.

  • Safety and security (Legitimate interests / Legal obligation): To protect our guests, staff and premises, prevent and detect crime, and keep our digital systems secure. This includes using CCTV and monitoring for fraud.

  • Competitions and promotions (Consent / Contract): To run prize draws or competitions you choose to enter, contact winners and provide prizes.

  • Marketing (Consent): To send you news, offers and updates about The Lower New Inn that we think you might like, but only if you have agreed to receive them. You can opt out at any time (see Section 8).

  • Personalisation and insight (Consent / Legitimate interests): To better understand what our guests enjoy so we can improve our menus, events and communications. Where this involves profiling or automated decisions that could significantly affect you, we will tell you and explain your rights.

We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with trusted third parties when it is necessary, for example:

  • Payment providers who process your card payments securely.

  • Reservation and booking platforms that help us manage tables and events.

  • IT, hosting and support providers who help us run our website and systems.

  • Email and marketing tools we use to send messages you have agreed to receive.

  • Analytics providers who help us understand how our website is used (using anonymised or aggregated data where possible).

  • Delivery or fulfilment partners where we need to send you something.

  • Professional advisers (such as accountants or lawyers) where needed.

  • Law enforcement or regulators where we are required to share information by law or to help prevent or detect crime.

Some of these partners may be based outside the UK. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place in line with UK GDPR (for example, approved contractual clauses). If you would like more details, you can contact us using the details below.

  • Marketing information: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, after which we update our records within 30 days.

When we no longer need your information, we will delete it or anonymise it.

We use a mix of technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls, secure systems and staff training. While no system is ever completely secure, we work hard to keep your data safe.
