About The Lower New Inn – Pontypool's Historic Community Pub
We're Tiff and Dan. And this is our pub.
We didn't set out to run a pub. We set out to find something worth doing, something that mattered to the people around us as much as it mattered to us.
When we found the The Lower New Inn, Pontypool, we stopped looking.
We'd been customers over three different owners, walked past as it sat closed, again! And now the stars have aligned for us to be able to be the next generation.
Together, we're proud to run The Lower New Inn as a welcoming pub and restaurant for the communities of New Inn, Pontypool and the surrounding Torfaen area.
Who we are...
Tiff has spent her career in hospitality, behind a bar, on KP, serving guests and cooking on the grill, but most recently looking after the people who work in hospitality, building the culture that makes a place feel like somewhere worth being.
Dan has spent years doing the operational work that keeps a hospitality business running with a keen focus on guest experience. The carefully procured drinks and food menus, the important event weekend planning, the things behind the scenes that are important but nobody sees.
Between us, we know what a good pub looks like. We know what it feels like when it's right and when it isn't. We're here because we genuinely believe The Lower New Inn Pontypool can be something New Inn is proud of. That's the only brief we've given ourselves.
Why this pub?
The Lower New Inn has stood on this corner for over three hundred years. It helped give New Inn its name. One of its former landlords, Kenny Morgans, was a Welsh international footballer who survived the Munich air disaster of 1958. The building carries weight.
We felt that the moment we walked through the door, and we haven't stopped feeling it since.
We're not trying to change what this pub is. We're trying to give it back to the people it belongs to.

The Lower New Inn is this week’s ‘Pub of the Week’, after its new owners marked a successful first week with fully booked evenings, a packed Sunday lunch and around 70 covers for its new £7 community lunch.
Since reopening The Lower New Inn, we've been fortunate to receive some fantastic coverage from the South Wales Argus. From the incredible community response to our reopening, to achieving a five-star hygiene rating and welcoming 70 diners for our £7 lunch, we're proud of the story we're building here in New Inn, Pontypool.
